Food & Menus at the Gate
Our new menu launched on 11th March 2017 with a mix of old
favourites and some new exciting dishes we've been developing

Our food is prepared in a modern well equipped kitchen by a team of five outstanding chefs. Our senior chefs have both been Head Chef in their own right - each experienced and capable of running a busy fresh food kitchen.
We never use agency chefs at the Gate and would rather shut the restaurant than have 'temps' in our kitchen. It took a long time to forge our kitchen team, but we are satisfied that we now have a team par excellence delivering great food seven days a week.
Our head chef, Jon Fryer is an award winning chef with his own inimitable style who was previously head chef with James & Julie at the Golden Lion in Magor, Monmouthsire.
Rob Sands joined the team in the summer of 2014 bringing an admirable wealth of experience and know-how garnered over many years as head chef.
There's no pre-prepared "out of the bag and into the Microwave" meals at The Gate. Everything is prepared by the team on premises using fresh ingredients.
This generally means that food takes a little longer to deliver to the table than you might expect at one of the big chain restaurants. Please be aware of this when you book.
At peak times on Friday & Saturday evenings (8-9pm) it can up to 45 minutes to deliver your main courses. However, we believe that it is worth waiting for.

The Gate adds a service charge of 8% to the final bill of all parties consisting of 9 or more diners
